As a designer, I’m always looking for good sources of inspiration. Lately I’ve been seeing quite a few well-designed, and stunningly beautiful magazines that have caught my attention. These design publications have the added challenge of appealing to very a nit-picky, borderline snobby community of designers (I should maybe only speak for myself), and deliver a high level of aesthetic design that stimulates creativity. Check out a few that have inspired me recently:
01. UPPERCASE is a quarterly magazine based out of Calgary, Canada. It profiles up-and-coming artists and explores emerging trends in design and creativity. UPPERCASE is a playful exploration of creativity, an affinity for vintage ephemera, and a love of typography.
02. Kinfolk is a quarterly, 144-page, ad-free print magazine that collects ideas from a growing international community of artists, writers, designers, photographers, cooks and others who are interested in creating small gatherings and finding new things to make and do.
03. Cereal is a new quarterly travel magazine that invites you to sit down, relax and enjoy. It is a magazine rooted in passions for food, travel and books. Each volume of Cereal contains detailed expositions of food, travel destinations, as well as profiles on products, people and places – chosen because ‘they’re relevant, interesting, or have simply caught our attention’.
04. Lucky Peach is a quarterly journal, created by New York chef-restaurateur David Chang, of food and writing. Each issue focuses on a single theme, and explores that theme through essays, art, photography, and recipes.
